Dental crowns: Dental crown or "cap" is a fix prosthetic covering which covers over a damaged or unattractive tooth to restore its shape, appearance and function. It also protects the tooth from further damages.A tooth that has been fixed with a crown looks and works very much like a natural tooth. The procedure: 1. your Dentist gives you local anesthetic. 2.the tooth that needs to be restored will be filed down to make room for dental crown and an impression will be made from the prepared tooth. 3. A temporary crown will be place over the tooth to protect the tooth until the final crown is ready( it may not be the same color and shape as the final crown) 4.On your next visit your dentist takes off the temporary crown and replaces it with final crown. the following video describes why you may need a crown after a root canal treatment.
